Plasma Arc Match Ignition System by PsychicRhino

There are many ways to ignite powder. Over the ages man has done so using glowing embers on the tip of a rope, a chemical match, flint/ steel, heated filaments, percussive primers... and so on. This project was an attempt to replicate some of the benefits of the electrical match or more commonly called E-Match which uses low voltage passed thru a tiny filament, which in turn ignites a bit of nitrocellulose based pyrogen and generates a brief, intense flash of fire to ignite the primary charge of a model rocket, a firework or other. The developer experimented with a lot of these and liked them very much, but found them to get spendy when buying large numbers of them, and quite fiddly to make via diy. So this project was developed in an effort to address the diy - ability and the cost by providing tools, and process on how he is able to make an E-match alternative. This is the Plasma Arc Match ( PAM). It uses 3d printed tools, inexpensive combustibles, and some simple off the shelf components ( arc cigarette lighter, a couple of switches and connectors). In essence it uses a super heated arc of plasma in lieu of a nichrome filament. The cost in filament, components and consumables to make your first 25 PAMs is about $11. To make the following batches it will cost you about one penny ($0.0095 USD ) per each or about a quarter to make of them.

This is all theoretical of course because this is all being posted as a simple expression of art and no one should ever attempt to replicate any part of this project as it could result in injury and or death. The developer takes no responsibility if you choose to ignore this dire warning.
