100% diy kits exist. The FCG9 and NAG22 come to mind.
For most consumers of 3D2A, yes, it's involving the assembly of a kit and some printed components, largely because kits allow more freedom to get creative. Look at the Urutau, BB36, any number of the Glock or Hipoint builds.
