Needs an extra axis. You can see in stock springs that in addition to be curved around, each coil is 'kicked' out at a very slight angle on each goaround to give it the coil distance needed.

What we really need are designs that use less box springs and more rounds springs, like the jojomasterson vityaz …

Not only that, but if you take the spring winder from the Urutau or the Rogue9 and scale it up to take a 3/8" mandrel (e.g. the bolt protrusion) and 0.062" music wire, you can make that spring yourself.

McMaster Carr has loads of springs to buy. You can wind springs yourself with transfer punches as the inside diameter mandrel. Chuck it in a drill and wrap the wire around the punch. Additionally there are spring winder tools for download on grabcad. If you look up chain mail ring making on Y…
