"Here come ol' flat top. He come groovin' up slowly"

This is a flat top receiver rail cover to convert a standard AR15 m4 'flat top' upper with a 1913 spec 'picatinny' rail into the XM4 as seen in Call of Duty Black Ops, and other entries in the series since.

This part is meant to be a tight press fit but it can be glued or otherwise attached. The cover is meant to be cut to fit to sit flush against the chosen rear sight.

The XM4 in the Call of Duty franchise is based on early 'flat top' ar15s modified by the end users and armorers which involved cutting the 'carry handle' sight riser off of an M16 upper receiver and machining, welding, and or drilling and tapping weaver rails or one continuous rail to the receiver. The Flat top upper as we know it today descended from the Colt ACR program, which included a detachable carry handle. The ACR only had slots cut for the Elcan optic and the carry handle, and it would not take other period optics.

The Call of Duty Black Ops XM4 is based on this design but has no slots cut into the rail. It sports a modern Troy rear sight, and when modified with an optic, the rear sight is removed revealing that there is no slot for it in the rail either. This is most likely an oversight from the devs, who have made much worse mistakes for firearms realism.
