It actually isn't, by legal definition. AOW specifically excludes firearms with rifled barrels, and adding a vertical grip doesn't affect the definition of pistol.

Very similiar to the single-shot 'HandiRifle' that H&R used to make. Receiver and stock were interchangeable with dozens of barrelled calibers and even shotgun shells. Thompson Contender did something similiar but kept most in pistol configurations.
