I'd highly recommend you try to get over the "small pieces" and "pins", because that's what guns are made of. If you won't touch that, you're limiting yourself quite a lot.

If that's the case, working around an existing design should be pretty straightforward depending on what you're doing with it. Sticking a barrel in front of that assembly and a bolt riding over it should be a fairly clear process. Getting the measurements from the grip module is easy enough.…
