One of the core elements of marksmanship is the
ability to aim a firearm at an intended target. Without
it, a firearm cannot reliably fulfill its role. Fire Control
systems are devices that allow users to aim their
weapon. These devices come in many forms and
designs. One of the earliest iterations of a fire control
system is the iron sight system. This system is
incredibly simple and reliable design, consisting of two
inert posts that are align against a target. In modern
applications, iron sights have limited capability, but due
to their robustness, they are often reserved as a
backup system in lieu of more advanced system.
Optimizing iron sights as a backup system is the best
step for the technology, which is why minimal design
was the central theme in the development of the Back
Up to the Fire under Control system (B.U.T.T.F.U.C.S.).
