I originally started developing an HKG11, but switched to the PLAR as A. I had always wanted a QBZ-95, and B. It seemed easier to tackle/parts cost. I took inspiration from Stubbs FAMAR for sure, essentially just retaining the handguard, upper, and pistol buffer combo.
Since this was my first firearm project, I wanted to make it simple to build and safe, so an assembled AR upper is pretty much as safe as it gets. I did forgo any metal reinforcement, aside from the charging handle option, as in testing, the model was so thick in the areas needed it just wasn't necessary, and it fit the look well. Instead of doing a clamshell design as well, I opted for a 1 piece receiver for a cleaner look, and retained the QD AR pins for easy disassembly and assembly, while also not having giant ring loops everywhere lol, or bolts/nuts. I learned a lot from it and I may revisit it in the future to make it better, or a complete redo but I have another project first. Biggest help, there were a lot of helpful guys but stand outs were guttercheese, jbrowning, chris.detrin and hgrig. pla.boi did give me tips on what to include in the build guide as well. -SSArms
